Fall weather driving tips

Summer has officially ended, which means fall's unpredictable weather patterns are about to begin. However, by following a few simple safety tips, California drivers can avoid seasonal road hazards and stay safe this autumn.

Fall features shorter days, patches of bright sun and heavy rain, sun glare, sudden temperature changes, frost, fog and leaves. There are also more cars and pedestrians on the road due to back-to-school traffic and more deer wandering across roads at night in some parts of the country, all of which increase the risk of accidents.

In order to avoid fall-related crashes, experts encourage drivers to reduce their speed during inclement weather and when there are school buses around. They should also leave extra space between their vehicle and the one in front of them to give them more time to react in the case of an emergency. This will be especially helpful when it's rainy, foggy or there are piles of wet leaves on the road. To increase visibility, drivers are urged to use their low beam headlights in foggy weather. They should also be sure to clear all frost away from their vehicle windows, make sure their windshield is free of dust and debris and ensure their tires are properly inflated before they hit the road.

A lawyer might be able to help victims of weather-related car accidents obtain compensation for their losses. For example, by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault driver, it may be possible for the victim to obtain an award that covers medical expenses and other applicable losses if a settlement cannot be reached beforehand.
